1112-burnley-zavon-hines-00-300x400Zavon Hines, who has been without a club since being released by Dagenham & Redbridge at the end of last season, has today signed for League One club Southend United on a deal until the end of the season.

He joined the Clarets from West Ham in August 2011 but only made thirteen league appearances, all of them from the bench, before having his contract terminated in the following summer. He’d spent the last two months of that year on loan at Bournemouth.

He signed a one year contract with Bradford City after leaving Burnley and then, in the summer of 2013, joined Dagenham & Redbridge on a one year deal. He turned down the offer of a new deal from them a year later but then returned when he failed to find another club and signed for a further two years until last summer.

Suffering a cruciate ligament injury in February 2014, he missed the rest of the season and the entire 2014/15 season. He returned last season but made only six League Two appearances for the Daggers, the last of them coming in a 1-1 home draw against Notts County in September 2015.

Southend confirmed his signing today with the 27-year-old having the rest of the season to try and win a longer deal at Roots Hall.
