1617 burnley jimmy dunne 01 1000There is more good news from Turf Moor today with central defender Jimmy Dunne having been called up for the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for internationals against Iceland and Azerbaijan.

Dunne his in his second season at Burnley. He was signed from Manchester United in the summer of 2016 and spent his first season in the development squad under coach Michael Jolley, now manager of Grimsby Town.

This season he’s been out on loan and earning rave reviews. He was with Barrow in the National League until January and has moved up to League Two with current league leaders Accrington since the start of the year and was recently nominated for the League Two Player of the Month for February.

Both games will be played in Dublin at the Tallaght Stadium where Burnley’s pre-season got underway against Shamrock Rovers. The first of the games against Iceland is a friendly and will be played next Thursday March 22nd with a UEFA U21 European Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan to follow on Tuesday 27th March. Both games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
