The presence of former Sheffield United, Everton and England centre half Phil Jagielka at Gawthorpe caused something of a stir on the message board last night with the 36-year-old training with the Clarets as we returned this week ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Jagielka was released by Everton at the end of last season after approaching 400 appearances for them in twelve years with the last of those coming in their win against us in May when he came on as a late substitute for Gylfi Sigurdsson to a superb reception from the home fans.

The former England player, who won 40 full caps for his country, is, Up the Clarets understands, one of two players currently without a club who have joined in training this week, something that often happens at clubs, and Jagielka will have one former team mate there in Aaron Lennon.

It is thought, at this time, that neither Jagielka or the other player are expected to become new Burnley signings this summer.
