Striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has today signed for Championship club Birmingham City on loan until January.

1516 burnley lukas jutkiewicz 01 300x500Juke,who is in the last year of a the three year contract he signed with us in the summer of 2014, was one of just two new signings in the team that lined up against Chelsea for the opening Premier League game of the 2014/15 season, the other being Matt Taylor, and he was first choice for the opening part of the season before losing his place to Ashley Barnes.

At the time, Sam Vokes was out with a cruciate ligament injury and when last season started it was Barnes ruled out similarly with Juke ahead of Vokes for the trip to Leeds.

In that first season he missed a good chance in the first away game at Swansea and at Leeds he would have twice won us a penalty but for the inept refereeing of Kevin Friend who opted to miss both incidents. It does make you wonder if he’d got a goal in either of those two games whether things would have been different.

Despite the lack of goals, his early performances for us in the Premier League did have him leading the player of the year voting for a while.

By August 2015, he became yet another cruciate victim, this in the 2-1 win at Bristol City on the last Saturday of the month. It ruled him out for the remainder of last season but he’s fit again and has had two substitute appearances this season in the league plus the start in the League Cup at Accrington.

He will now spend the rest of 2016, and until 2nd January 2017, with Birmingham in the Championship.
