Chris Kavanagh will referee Burnley for the seventh time tonight when he takes charge of our game at Everton, this being his third Burnley game of the season to add to the home games against Huddersfield and Wolves.

All but one of his previous Burnley games have been in the Premier League during the last two seasons and that includes one between tonight’s two sides; he was in charge when we beat Everton 2-1 at home last season.

He refereed one game in the Premier League prior to joining the Select Group of officials ahead of last season and he’s making a reputation for himself as one of the best up and coming referees we’ve seen for some time and that’s been reflected in his performances in our games with only one disappointing game at Brighton last season. It’s seen him move into fourth place in RATE THE REF with a rating of 76.41 out of 100.

Tonight will be his 31st game of the season and his 23rd in the Premier League. In his previous 30 games there have been a total of 98 yellow and two red cards. Of those yellows, 47 have gone to home team players and 51 to away team players. He sent off Leicester’s James Maddison in their 1-1 draw at Brighton and more recently dismissed Millwall’s Shane Ferguson in their penalty shoot out defeat against Brighton

The assistant referees are Dan Cook and Mick McDonough. The fourth official is Anthony Taylor whose last Burnley game was the home draw against Southampton in early February.

His last game was Fulham’s 1-0 win against Cardiff last Saturday in which there were no cards at all, the first time he’s had a card free game in fifteen months.

He’s not a referee who concerns me when he’s allocated a Burnley game; hopefully that will still be the case after tonight’s game.
