Burnley’s 3-0 win at Hull last Friday ensured we would still be in second place in the Professional Development League table and although Leeds won three days later to retain their four point advantage at the top, we did move a further two points clear of third place Birmingham who could only draw against Crewe.

1819 burnley dan agyei 00 500x500We started 2019 with two 1-0 defeats, at home against Sheffield Wednesday and then at Barnsley, but things have taken a positive turn since with five wins and a draw in league and cups, three of those victories coming in the last three league games.

Third place Birmingham, four points behind us, do have a game in hand, but we are giving ourselves a really good chance to get a top two finish and should we do that it will see us go into the end of season play-offs with the top two from the southern group, currently Ipswich and Crystal Palace.

That gap between us and Birmingham could close to within one point in the next week. They play Sheffield Wednesday while we are without a game. That’s one result we’ll be looking for next Monday as we will the Leeds result in two days time; they are at Nottingham Forest who are currently next to bottom.

We should have been in action next Monday in the Premier League Cup. That game has been put back to a week on Friday by which time the group games should have been completed and we’ll know which teams are going through to the knock out stage of the competition. Quite simply, we will go through if we beat West Brom while a draw or defeat will see us go out.

The player photographed this week is striker Dan Agyei. He’s scored 15 league goals this season plus another three in the cups. He scored twice in the league win against Hull after which coach Steve Stone said: “Dan was the real positive tonight. I said to him at half time, ‘you will win us this game, you have the power and pace to win this game, no problem’. He did that, but he has to believe in himself and believe in what he’s got, and if he does, he’s got a chance of making a decent career.”

The League Tables and Premier League Group Tables are updated as results are confirmed. They can both be found with our Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
