Walsall’s lead at the top of the Youth Alliance League has increased to three points although I suspect they were hoping to make that five with a win over Preston given that second place Accrington were without a game.

They were only able to draw that game against North End but it has taken them to 20 points on a day when Burnley, through no fault of our own, dropped two places to seventh. We were left without a game when the pitch for our away game against Morecambe was waterlogged but, looking at the league table, a win there would have seen us climb into second place, above Accrington on goal difference, albeit having played more games.

Blackpool and Port Vale were the two teams to move above us. Both drew. Blackpool were held by Wigan on Friday with Port Vale only able to draw against bottom team Wrexham on the following day. Both now lead us on goal difference.

Carlisle’s good start seems to have come to an end. They lost yet again, this time against Shrewsbury although the big surprise result was Fleetwood’s 4-0 win against Rochdale who have recovered from a difficult start.

Having seen our game called off last week, we are without a fixture this week although we can’t fall any further down the league with us having a four point advantage over Wigan and Carlisle who are in the next two places. of the five games being played, only two teams currently above us are in action. Leaders Walsall are at home to Carlisle while Blackpool travel to Shrewsbury.

All last week’s results are below along with this week’s fixtures, Burnley’s goalscorers and the current league table.
