1718 burnley oliver younger 00 500x500The youth teams of Burnley and Leeds are going to get to know each other over the next three days with under-18 fixtures between the clubs in two competitions.

On Monday evening they meet at Turf Moor in the FA Youth Cup but before that they play each other at Gawthorpe tomorrow morning in the U18 Professional Development League.

The two are closely matched, we are both one point behind leaders Huddersfield although Leeds are two places higher than us, in second, with a better goal difference and with a game in hand.

After a run of four defeats in October and the start of November brought our early season unbeaten run to an end, we’ve picked up maximum points in the last two games. We played really well to beat an in form Sheffield United at home two weeks ago and then followed that up with an away win against leaders Nottingham Forest.

Leeds are also on a good run. Having lost at Birmingham on the last Saturday in October, they’ve won two and drawn one this month. They started with a 5-2 home win against Barnsley, drew at Huddersfield and last week beat Crewe 2-1.

The under-23s are without a fixture this week so I would think that will release players such as Oliver Younger (pictured) and James Clarke and make them available for the youth team along with Dwight McNeil who played last week. Maybe some of those players will be held back for the FA Youth Cup tie which will give some of the younger players another opportunity in tomorrow’s league game .

Kick off tomorrow at Gawthorpe is 11 a.m.
