Martin O’Neill recently named a squad of 37 for three fixtures to be played in June and from that initial squad a total of 19 players have travelled to America today to play a friendly against Mexico at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey this Thursday 1st June.

Kevin Long was one of four Burnley players named in that 37 man squad but he’s the only one in this reduced squad prior to them returning for two games in Dublin, a friendly against Uruguay and a World Cup qualifier against Austria.

The three Burnley players expected to feature in the two home games are Stephen Ward, Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady, who captained his country last time out, but all Burnley eyes for this first game will be on Long and whether he wins his first international cap.

It’s been a remarkable month for Long who, prior to the last three games of the season hadn’t started a Premier League game, his only experience coming as a substitute on New Year’s Day 2015 when he was stretchered off with a cruciate ligament injury. He came in for the injured Michael Keane for those last three games, his first league starts for Burnley since December 2013 when he stood in for the suspended Michael Duff in a 0-0 home draw against Watford.

Irenand had concerns over two of the players, Leeds’ midfielder Eunan O’Kane and Brighton’s central defender Shane Duffy who were involved in a car crash en route, but the FAI has today confirmed that neither were injured and have reported safely to the team hotel in Dublin.
