Madley gets third Burnley game of the season
Bobby Madley will referee Burnley for a third time this season when we play Crystal Palace tomorrow at Selhurst Park; he previously refereed our Premier League away games against West Ham and Sunderland.
He was fine in that latest game at Sunderland but that’s not always been the case with Burnley and this referee. Even this season, at West Ham, he awarded them a penalty, which led to the winning goal, having missed a foul on Tom Heaton and he had poor games at Turf Moor in 2012 and 2013, wrongly sending off Kieran Trippier and then giving West Ham the softest of penalties in a League Cup game. He also dismissed Derby’s Chris Martin, wrongly, in a 2-0 Burnley win in 2014.
More recently, he upset Chelsea with his handling of their game against Manchester United two weeks ago, allowing United’s opening goal despite a handball from Ander Herrera, and last week he sent off Hull’s Oumar Niasse, a decision that was quite rightly rescinded on appeal.
It was his fourth red card of the season with two of the previous three coming in Premier League games. He dismissed Leicester’s Marcin Wasilewski in a 4-2 home defeat against Chelsea and Miguel Britos for Watford as they lost 1-0 at home against Stoke.
In total he’s refereed 31 games this season with just three in the Football League. In those games there have also been 130 yellow cards with 65 going to both home and away team players. In his last game, besides the red card for Niasse, he also yellow carded Hull’s Andrew Robertson, Alfred N’Diaye and Lazar Markovic and Watford’s Sebastien Prod.
Bobby Madley is currently 10th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 65.54 out of 100.
The assistant referees are Adam Nunn (Wiltshire) and Marc Perry (West Midlands). The fourth official is Andre Marriner (Birmingham) whose last Burnley game was the FA Cup win against Bristol City in January.
