Watford’s pathetic attempt in appealing Marvin Zeegelaar’s red card has, quite rightly, ended in failure and you have to ask why on earth the FA haven’t added on a further one game ban for a frivolous appeal.

“Harsh, harsh, harsh,” said Watford boss Marco Silva, a manager who clearly has no interest whatsoever in player safety given that challenge could, had he not been alert, caused Steven Defour a major problem.

Everton chased this manager strongly recently but I think they may well have dodged a bullet to be honest if this is the way he behaves. He’s made some nonsensical comments about not being treated fairly and has been at it again, demanding that his serial diver Richarlison is treated the same by referees as Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha as he tries to place another referee, this time Lee Mason, under pressure ahead of their next game at Crystal Palace.

Zeegelaar will rightly miss the games against Crystal Palace plus the next two against Huddersfield and Brighton, and the FA should surely be taking a long, hard look at Silva’s comments over the past few days.
