Our two central defenders are still leading the way for the first ever Up the Clarets Player of the Year award but Ben Mee has extended his lead over Michael Keane after another man of the match performance in last week’s 3-1 defeat at Everton.

Mee won both the man of the match vote and the player ratings to collect the maximum ten points which has taken his lead over Keane to 17 points and reaching a total that will ensure one of them will win the award.

He polled 39% of the man of the match vote with Robbie Brady, who has settled back in well having regained his place, coming second with 16%. Tom Heaton was third with a 12% share and 9% of the vote gave Joey Barton fourth place.

All of those four players secured points in the player ratings too. Mee won it with a rating of 8.10 out of 10 followed by Heaton who had a rating of 7.52. Matt Lowton was third; his rating was 7.38 with Barton and Brady sharing fourth place, both with ratings of 7.29 out of 10.

Besides the ten points for Mee, there are five four Heaton with Brady winning four votes and both Barton and Lowton collecting two each.

Mee’s total is now 137 and it does make him the clear favourite for first place at the end of the season although he and Keane have been swapping places regularly.

The result for the Everton game is below with the current player of the year table and the vote for the next game against Manchester United will get underway on Sunday afternoon approximately an hour after the final whistle.
