1617 burnley ben mee 01 1000Burnley have just confirmed that Ben Mee, 2015/16 supporters clubs player of the year, has signed a new three year deal with the club.

Ben has just ended an outstanding season both personally and for the club and I think supporters will be delighted to hear today’s news given that he only had one more year remaining on his previous contract.

It’s five years now since he joined Burnley, the first summer signing of 2011 when he arrived on loan from Manchester City. He’d previously been at Leicester and Sven Goran Eriksson was keen for him to return, but he opted for a season at Turf Moor.

That loan was converted into a permanent move in January 2012 and he’s since gone on to establish himself as a first team regular, firstly at left back and since Christmas back on the left of the central defensive pair, the position he played when he first came to Burnley.

Ben has played in 167 league games for the Clarets in those five years and has been virtually a first choice throughout each of the last three seasons as we’ve twice won promotion to the Premier League.

After putting pen to paper, he said: “It’s brilliant and I’m delighted to extend my stay here at Burnley. After such a great season last year, and getting married in the summer, things just keep getting better and hopefully it will improve even more.

“I feel comfortable and at home here and we’ve been chatting for a while. Obviously it’s been a busy summer, so it was something we put on a back burner, but it was always going to get done.

“This club is going somewhere the minute. It’s been ever–changing throughout my time here and you can see the things going on at the training ground and the way the team is going. It’s exciting and we’re definitely moving forwards. Now I just want to help keep the team in the Premier League. That’s my short-term goal and I want to be a big part of it.

“There’s a togetherness and a will to do well and I am sure that will stand us in good stead.”
