One poster mentioned above that lagers can be tricky. I would agree, you need to develop a bit of nous, not least because for best results (in my view) they need to be brewed 'cold'. One that I regularly use is Cooper's European Lager but I use brew enhancer rather than dextrose as the fermentable. ...

Houseboy...I'm not good at chess but if RXpe5 then couldn't the king just take the rook at e5 to get out of the check rather than move to f3? If not, then once at f3 couldn't the king take the pawn at f2 to prolong the game?

For those with a passing interest in the Whitechapel Murders the book 'Severin - A Tale of Jack The Ripper' is a very good novel based around the fact that Inspector Abberline suspected that George Chapman (real name Severin Klosowski) was the Whitechapel Murderer.

Suffolk......... Burnley born and brewed, '64 vintage and another one of us that saw the first light of day in Bank Hall hospital. Moved to East Anglia 30+ years ago.

How big is your dog Steve? I do a lot of long distance walking (15-25 miles) with my two and use a couple of doggie slings to give them occasional breaks. They usually take turns but occasionally I have to carry both! They weigh about 7kgs each.

DCW - I can’t speak for gin but I reckon that you could purchase a pretty decent beer making start up kit for around £40-50. Some suppliers do starter sets with a starter beer. Aside from searching for additions to my Whitechapel Murders book collection I really enjoy making beer. There are some great beermaking kits around nowadays.

Scoundrels by Duncan Crowe and James Peak. Have read volumes 1 & 2 several times. Laughed my bits off each time I've read them. Daughter bought me the third for Father's Day. Yet to start that one but I'm told it's equally as good as its predecessors.
