Re: Kompany to Brighton?
As all keepers are possibly 1 game away from a serious error that will cost their teams big time, it pains me to see any of our goalkeepers hammered for errors and opinions like 'neither are PL quality'. In that case no goalkeeper is PL quality.

Re: Kompany to Brighton?
I think we may have forgotten that Vincent's wife apparently wanted to return to the north-west. Brighton couldn't be further away. I am also convinced until it's proven otherwise that he wants to build/rebuild a VK dynasty here to prove that a name can succeed at a small club and then succeed at a ...

Re: Assignon & Esteve
Assignon does have a similar instinct to find an opportunity in another area of the pitch which VK's system allows, so Assignon and Maatsen are both likely to make a goalscoring play or assist where an 'old fashioned' full back might not. Trent also has this instinct, but does it in a more advanced ...

VAR has decided from the outset that clear and obvious does not apply to offside in the same way as goal-line technology. It has to be judged as offside or onside. They have not made any allowance for a desperately tight decision so there will always be dissenting voices. Even in horse racing camera...

I guess that might also be an example of how Keane as a manager didn't seem to have good personal relationships with his players, ultimately leading to his demise as a club manager. Perhaps Keane didn't lead from the front with his players right behind him. Maybe when he turned round to see where th...

Why would you advise a club that a points increase is unlikely. The options available should be clearly defined and able for a club to refer to. To state that a points increase is unlikely is almost encouraging a club to appeal.

Doesn't matter where Maatsen lines up, he isn't a 'traditional' full back. The game is evolving continually and there is the four centre back, back fours and the let's try and get 11 footballers on the pitch. Maatsen fits into the latter group. It probably needs a combination of those two ideas alon...

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
The Muric howler is no more or no less of a howler whatever the outcome of the game. The fact that we lost two points, just affects the anger levels on here. Although this thread is about Muric, our player, in this instance I think that comparisons with other keepers is more than relevant. All keepe...

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
England's No 1, Mr Pickford, made an epic fail last night of Muric proportions, yet for some reason it has hardly had a mention, certainly not on this thread. Yet another reminder that an error does not define a keeper, because all keepers make them.

Re: So do you drop Muric after two massive costly howlers?
Eye off the ball, lack of concentration, poor weather conditions, pass played between the posts all combined and a total misjudgement, nothing at all to do with technique. He could have employed the inside of the boot technique (not instep) and still misjudged it with the same result.

He was probably looking where to pass it to, seeing who was unmarked and took his eye off the ball for that split second like we do when checking the rear view mirror. It shouldn't happen but it did. He made a bad choice and we've all suffered the consequences but he'll be hurting the most.

Re: Striker, Left Back, Defensive Midfielder
People are so entrenched in their goalkeeper views, that until we have a clear number 1, with a more than competent number 2, that will continue. In fairness to both our present keepers I think this is a hangover from Nick Pope. It started last season with unfair comparisons between Pope and Muric a...

I haven't looked at the 'rate the players' thread, but not surprisingly Ekdal looked very rusty yesterday. The further away he is from our goal, the more confident he looks, but for a defender, I'm not sure that is a great recommendation.

A lot of points made, but the majority of them, clearly agenda based. Only two posts prior to this one have pointed out that a back pass to a keeper should never be between the posts. That alone prevents the mistake resulting in a goal. Just as comments against Trafford were over the top and unneces...

To me, that looks like a variable 4-2-2-2, morphing into 4-4-2. Don't see why you would give up on Fofana and Foster after 1 game. Just looked they were playing in each other's boots against Wolves. Today they will be better as a pair. Might even play better away from home with more space around the...
