Isn't there a rule that says a player can leave a club after a certain period if he hasn't played a number of matches during a specific period?

I can't imagine a club could sign a player, say on a five year contract, not play him or allow him to train thus basically ending his footballing career.

I assume it's because you get a bigger buzz winning a division than fighting to avoid relegation most seasons. Another difference is many people will never have heard of half of the Championship clubs, whereas we are probably known in every country around the world due to Premier league TV exposure.

Well he won't resign, unless a club have approached him and offered him the job. So it'll either be a sacking, which I doubt he'll mind as he'll get a payout, or it's until a rival club such as Newcastle/Palace have the vacancy.
