Re: Varifocals
I got a pair about two weeks ago, and they still go a bit trippy at times, but at least I can go shopping now and not have to take my glasses off every time I try to read the shopping list

Re: Mens Team GB football team
Football has been an Olympic sport since 1900 ~ 30 years before the first world cup. Great Britain are still the joint most successful team, having won it three times. And of course we should have a team in the tournament. It is ridiculous that we don't. We're the home of the modern game, we should ...

Re: Chris Wood in NZ Olympic Squad
Have GB entered again? I remember they had some weird mix was it last Olympics? GB men didn't qualify for this year's Olympics. Qualification is based on how well the under 21s do in their european championship. I think GB men did qualify for the 2016 Olympics by virtue of England under 21s making ...

Re: Book recommendations
I'm not a big sci-fi reader, but one I did enjoy very much was Extracted by RR Haywood. There are two others in the series too - Executed and Extinct, which I will get around to reading some day. Mostly I tend to lean towards fantasy ~ anything by Frances Hardinge usually tickles my fancy - especial...

Re: Worst song ever
Musical taste is all very subjective, one man's nectar is another man's poison ~ but any song that has ever made it into the charts has been well crafted enough to make people buy it, so they all have some merit ~ however perfectly good songs can be made to sound astonishingly awful by the right peo...

Well I generally keep quiet about this, but the number one when I was born was a song called Something Stupid.
Yes, I know.
It was by Frank and Nancy Sinatra.

Re: Nkoudou
First game I've managed to get to this season! i was impressed by the Clarets overall, it was a solid if unspectacular away performance, full of confidence and organisation. I thought Nkoudou was lively. He always made himself available and was willing to take people on. In this game however he wasn...

Re: 2 million quid that defeat cost us today
Nevertheless, what a brilliant season overall by the Clarets - who would not have taken a 16th place finish in the Premier League at the beginning of the season? A totally fantastic effort over the 38 games ~ a massive well done to the manager and players and all concerned!

I recall as a kid in the 70's that this one was very popular - to the tune of Land of Hope and Glory:

Leeds and Liverpool too
We hate Man United
But Burnley we love you!

I never miss the repeats of Top of the Pops on BBC4!
They have reached 1983 now, just my era, I turned 16 that year!
Bowie's Lets Dance is just about to be replaced at number one by True. Love it!
And best of all, it annoys the kids

Re: The four most famous people from Burnley
Well of those four only the bottom two are actually 'from' Burnley by virtue of birth, though both moved away in early childhood. I was a bit disappointed the other week watching Ian Mckellen on Who Do You Think You Are, where he mentioned he was born only in 'north Lancashire' ~ so he obviously doe...

Re: Will Trump do anything he said he would do?
As a 9 year old at Primary School in 1976 I would (along with all my class) have found his surname hysterically funny. I haven't lived in Burnley for a long time so I don't know if trump still means fart? Or is still just as funny? There was a song we often had to sing in morning assembly that had t...
