I can see how folk think it should be a red. But it's one of those weird ones for me. Coleman lets the ball runaway from him and Pieters goes in to tackle turning his back. No, the ref is meant to let play continue even if the flag goes up but it does appear that instruction is not being followed.

When there's an element of subjectivity, there is no "right" decision, which is why they're running VAR in the way they are. Absolute in the sense that the VAR should make a decision based on the replays they have access to, rather than being reluctant to overrule the on-field ref's decis...

As soon as Barnes went down and Cootes waved play on, Kevin Friend instructed him not to restart play as they were looking at it again. Surely if he "waved play on" there was no break in play, hence no restart. Are you saying he delayed the restart when the ball was next dead? I guess my ...

Apparently if VAR catches someone ( or maybe it was the ref )diving they can only award a yellow card It was discussed on Talksport this morning. Should be a red card and a ban for a few matches.it would soon stop it. VAR not used for diving, unless it's to overturn a penalty given. Can't give yell...

Yes, but we got an official message on the screen for Woods’ “goal”, but not for JBG’s. This would suggest they were checking JBG’s to assess whether a more formal check was needed? A pre-check! I think it's because Wood's would have been changing the on-field decision. The three goals were checked...

The defined benefits scheme (BT Pension Scheme) is now closed, it's now a defined contribution scheme (BT Retirement Saving Scheme). I don’t think it’ll be long until we look back at this method of calculating offside as archaic. It already looks well behind the times. For the system to work accurately we need a camera running along either side line at pitch level which keeps on line with the last man. Most players wear trackers...

"Clear and obvious errors" still needs defining. So far they have decided that offside by an inch, using technology that isn't accurate enough to judge that closely, is "clear and obvious". I think the 'clear and obvious' is meant to come in for incidents like a red card offence...
