Going back awhile and again more recently, J, several players in SD's squad were apparently not his signings, but the board's. I suppose we should anticipate this happening at times during VK's tenure, too. And if so, I hope that - whatever the other reasons for it - this has been agreed in advance ...

We don't always have a song for individual players. In James Tarkovsky's case my choice would've been "TARKY FOR ENGLAND!"

Whether or not he'll ever be back in the England squad remains to be seen, but it would make for a fitting and fond farewell chant for him to hear on Sunday.

That's really sad news. Andy gave me a special memory, scoring the winning goal in my first ever Burnley match - the 1-0 victory against Spurs at WHL April 1966.

In 1957 Roger Hunt, whilst stationed at Larkhill Army Camp on Salisbury Plain, played for my local side Shrewton Utd (who also happen to play in claret and blue).

A few years later future England forward Mick Channon, a local lad, played for Shrewton Utd too, before joining Southampton.

Always impressed at these tournaments by the various international guest TV analysts command and clarity of the English language; the French, The Dutch, The Belgians and the Danes etc all perfectly spoken.

This has been the only match so far where subtitles have been necessary.

I watched the Czech qualifying matches: Matej was mainly used as a substitute and, unless one of the other strikers is unavailable, we'll probably see him start on the bench.

Bodge, not 100% about this, but I thought I heard the TV commentator say Browny had passed a late fitness test; maybe whatever that was, it was affecting his game. The substitution was probably a good move all round...and it paid off handsomely.
