They've been the Baggies since the 19th century. Something to do with their supporters having baggy trousers because they were steel workers who came to matches straight from work on a Saturday. That's what I've heard, anyway.

Rowls is quite right. A club's 'natural' position is where it stands financially without a benefactor or money gained from a season or two in the Premier League. Blackburn have about the same 'natural' position as us and they have very generous benefactors, but they can't do it, but without any such...

The suggestions that people are hypocrites are misplaced and don't stand up to logic. Arguments along the lines of 'it's not a fair world' and 'it's all bad anyway' or 'football's sold its soul' are weak and don't stand up to any reasonable scrutiny. They deal only in absolutes and miss the point that differences of degree and extent are real differences. I don't like being owned by ...

I know there's a general thread on the topic, but this is a specific question to think about. If it had been Saudi Arabia rather than ALK that took over Burnley, it seems likely we could look forward to becoming one of the top clubs in Europe. But would we want people like that in charge of the club...

It bothers me that Abramovich is a close friend and associate of Putin who has almost certainly authorised the use of chemical weapons in Britain as well as other international criminality. Would you really want someone like that owning your club? To me, it would be like being taken over by the Mafia.

I don't see anything hypocritical about eating imitation chicken or bacon for vegetarians. The point of vegetarianism is to avoid eating food derived from animal slaughter and if you can make that change whilst sticking to a broadly similar diet I can't see the problem with it.

There's no other club that comes close to Burnley in terms of over-achieving. Stanley maybe, but I'm not sure how much Andy Holt backs them financially. Lincoln also look like they're doing better than one might expect, but again they've got owners who have put in a fair bit of money.

It will be tough trying to break into an already saturated market. There is just so much football on television these days that it is hard to see how the women's game will be able to make much of an impact. Perhaps there is a niche marked though.
