Sir John Hall sold his shares to Mike Ashley for £55m and Freddy Shepherd followed suit later, both had taken large Directors’ salaries for years. Newcastle a largish toon are having difficulty moving up a level and their neighbours Sunderland languish in level 3. Be careful what you wish for, a decent stay in the PL is some achievement.

Dave - I guess it is too easy to overestimate demand, when push comes to shove many are unprepared to shell out for your “labours of love”. However the books will be your lasting legacy rather than some of the kids you attempted to educate!?

I was at Old Trafford Saturday evening when Holding, Roberts etc worked over Edrich and Close. A brutal onslaught but bravely faced by the batsmen after Greig wound up the opposition with his “make them grovel comment”. RIP John.

Yes a disappointment to miss coverage on TV but must be doubly frustrating for the players.
