Re: Your team for the gunners

Only change I'd consider is bringing in Hendrick for one of the two wide midfielders. That worked extremely well away to the bigger clubs last season. On the other hand, not easy to decide which of McNeil or JBG would make way given how well McNeil has performed this calendar year and JBG's goal las...

Re: Drinkwater - bench this weekend?

I was surprised he wasn't on the bench on Saturday, but it may be that because he only joined on Thursday, he'd not actually joined up with the squad (likely spent Friday sorting his stuff out). After a week of training, it'd be very odd if he wasn't on the bench as an option should we get an injury...

They were very specific in terms of age and height and where the experience had to be which was my original, somewhat jokey, point. Personally I don't think that Hendrick is that physically imposing. Indeed (it was from F365 so it may even have been me who posted it). Personally I quite like Hendrick although I think his best performances for us have been on the right of midfield. Valuable squad member and most effective on the right. Worth his 10M but certainly no 20 M, let's not get carried away ;) You let me know where we can get a 6 foot tall midfielder, who can play pretty much any role across a midfield 4 or 5, and has played 100+ premier league games and is only 27, f...

I think what I mean by personal is that you don't limit yourself to offering an opinion of Scott's performance. You make reference to him being "surely as bad a referee as you can possibly get in the Premier League" - which to my mind is a more general comment about Graham Scott, and it's ...

At his fully fit, in form best - yes. If for no other reason than he's a better player than either Westwood or Cork (no disgrace on either, it's just reflecting the fact Drinkwater is better - that's why he's won league titles, gone to Chelsea for £35 million, etc.). Big fan of Tony's match reports, and I agree that Scott isn't one of the better refs in the league, and didn't have an especially stellar game on Saturday. There was one failure to bring play back when there was no advantage after Westwood had been fouled which was particularly odd, and it understan...

From TV - tough game to mark, in that it was very tight and pretty scrappy for long periods, but once we got the wind in the second half we were always the more likely winners. Pope - 7 - Decent save from Redmond first and and a smarter (if less heralded) one with his feet at his near post late on, ...

Pope
Lowton
Taylor
Tarkowski
Mee
Cork
Westwood
Hendrick
McNeil
Barnes
Wood

That's basically the team which did so well for us last season, other than Lowton who won his place back from Bardsley before the end of campaign.

Tough on JBG, but Hendrick deserves the shirt. Be a very strong bench.

It's been a 7/10 window for me. On the plus side - we've hit our first two objectives: make sure we've enough depth in each position, and add extra quality in possession. Good player, and in those terms its an excellent signing who undoubtedly can improve the first eleven.
