Re: Local League Cricket 21/7/19

There is a big difference in signing a player that may miss the start or end of a season.

Smit is signing whilst eh has a pro contract with a team that has a diary full of fixture clashes with LL games.

Re: Local League Cricket 21/7/19

It’s slightly different to Burnley. Burnley were let down last minute and have run with sub pros all season. They have to be fair to them, tried to sign pros for periods of time such as Allenby and Smit covering multiple games. Rammy are signing a player who is contracted to play cricket for a team ...

The Rammy signing of Smit is actually against the league rules. Smit has agreed a new contract at Derbyshire which could well mean he misses periods of the season due to those commitments. Ocki won't be playing as an amateur at Lowerhouse next season. He can still earn very good money as a pro and will, I expect, for a good few years.

Long term I think he plans to become an umpire. I know he is quietly progressing up the ranks in that regard at the moment.

The cricket World Cup commentators are chosen by the ICC and not sky. The comms will be the same in every country so the likes of Michael Clarke get a gig.

The only thing sky control in their coverage are the pre game bits and link sections etc.

That’s why the usual Sky crew are few and far between.

We have a variation of the same excuses each season so not sure why anyone expects different.

Last year we could mix the excuses up by blaming the World Cup and being Europe.

Well batted Tom.

It's obvious why we don't get players in early. Both clubs and agents see Burnley as a club that won't pay top dollar, and so they wait for a better offer to come along. All we have to do to lose this reputation is to start paying top dollar. If we pay enough so that other clubs and players realise...
