Re: Farting
When you are of a certain age and in polite company, what does one do when the pressure begins to build. You know full well that as soon as you stand up you will have no control so exiting the room is not an option. Dare you risk releasing the valve slowly and cautiously? The key to successful venti...

Re: England v New Zealand
I am still trying to convince myself that what I saw actually happened. The word ‘unbelievable’ is used far too often to describe dramatic events but not this one. Each side deserved to win and neither deserved to lose and the match stats reflect that. The main determining factor was good fortune of...

Re: Great old words.
One of my favourite websites. http://www.phrontistery.info/index.html There you will find thousands of words and their definitions that have fallen out of use, are rarely used or are simply amusing. The site’s URL includes the word phrontistery. A word no longer used (except in a website’s name) mea...

Re: First Supermarkets in Burnley
The only thing I recall about Safeways was that it had automatic doors. Never previously seen in Burnley. People stood outside watching them open and close and marvelled at the new technological age we were entering. Early 1960s.

Such a shame they will not be playing Accrington Stanley in the league next season. I was quite looking forward to that.

Re: £121m UK winner
Securely invested £121mil should generate something around £15000 interest per day. I like the idea of waking up each morning £5000 wealthier than when I went to bed 8 hours earlier. The numbers are mind boggling. What to do with it all? I don’t know. I will have 'earned' £50 ish since I started wri...

'Back of the net'.
That implies there is a front of the net. Anybody know where that is?

Jack Duckworth filling in his pools coupon at the bar in The Rovers Ken Barlow (I think).”Still doing the pools Jack” “Yeah” “Do you have a system?” “Nah, I go off form.” “Why don’t you use numbers that have a special meaning? Like your Vera’s vital statistics.” “Too much of a cluster in Scottish 2n...

I might have the wrong film here but I vaguely recall a shot of the Wembley scoreboard showing Tottenham 3 Burnley 1 in the Beatles' film Help!

Re: Matthews playing at the Turf
https://tinyurl.com/hmj4ocl The link is to an audio clip from the BBC archive featuring Arthur from Barrowford recalling his trips to the Turf in the late 1940s/50s and early 60s. Paints a wonderful picture of what life was like in the ground before concrete terracing. He makes reference to Stanley...

A few years ago I showed Jay and his parents round my sister’s house nr Worsthorne. Jay was very keen and would have bought it but it was already under offer and that sale went to completion.
