Re: Southport
I'd recommend Birkdale rather than the town centre. Great pub called The Park for the football, and a few nice wine bars and restaurants. All right next to Birkdale station.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley win Bloomfield Boxing Day Battle
That 1-5 defeat was my first ever match - 9 years old. I'll never forget going through the Bee Hole turnstiles, hearing some kind of bang from the floodlights and then seeing a starling which had electrocuted itself falling to the ground near us.

Re: The team
Haven't posted for ages but have to say that was awesome! Those lads would run through brick walls for Sean Dyche. Every single one played out of their skin. Surely if we finish as high as is looking likely the board will 'stretch' the finances. It's not as if Sean is asking for the sort of money Ha...

And now Sky Sports text commentary referring to Pope in goal. Good half time substitution that.

Maharaj just taken 2nd wicket and bowling well now. Worcestershire 191 ahead with 4 wickets left.

Re: Lancashire vs Worcestershire CC
Well surely someone will be able to hold things together enough to get 200! As I said, the track is decent. Worcestershire now 160 ahead with 6 wickets in hand so looking like a longer chase anyway. Maharaj on but looking innocuous so far.

Re: Lancashire vs Worcestershire CC
I am at the match right now. Bailey and Onions bowling very well but Lancs won't want to be chasing much more than 200. Nothing wrong with the track by the way. Seaming a bit but bounce is consistent. Won't see the close as we will be setting off for the Turf before that.

Re: Chairman's interview
Good interview. I am proud that our club is in the hands of Burnley people and its management and players are mainly British. Convinced that's why there is such a sense of togetherness.

Re: Tom Watson
That Turnberry performance was amazing. I was gutted when he bogeyed the last hole. Whenever I've been to The Open me and my son have followed Watson round and he's always been a model pro with respect for the sport. Makes prima donna cheating footballers look ridiculous.

Tom Watson
Just been watching Tom Watson in the par 3 comp at the Masters. Awesome performance from a great sportsman. Nicklaus and Player also turned the clock back. Should be a great tournament this week.

Re: Mighty night for Northwest football
I think it's been suggested on here before but Paul Cook looks like a good fit as a future Burnley manager. Strong character, plays good football and understands Burnley. I can see him stepping up to Prem level seamlessly.

Same here. At the Etihad FA Cup match I was on the back row of the top tier. Felt totally remote from the match. Much preferred being able to stand, choose where to stand and move around. Being stuck in a seat is not much fun!

Re: Halifax away 1991/92
What year was it when The Shay was covered in snow? They cleared the pitch but it was banked up all around and treacherous on that cinder terrace. Must have been around that time.

Re: L'Equipe article about burnley
I think one of the reasons our team spirit is so good is that the players and management share a common language and culture. Dressing room banter in sport depends on a shared understanding of humour, irony and having had similar experiences in life. If you dilute that too much you start to lose the...

Re: Tonight's matches
Relative to expectation at the beginning of the season we are doing better than any other team in the league by miles. Really hope we can keep it up. The team must be growing in confidence every week so no reason why we can't finish in a place which gets us into Europe next season.

Great quiz. Got a couple wrong which was annoying because I've played on all of those grounds except Canterbury and The Oval (which I got right). Missed New Road Worcester and Trent Bridge.

Merson predicted we would lose 2-0 tonight because the Arsenal game must have "knocked Burnley sideways". Stealing a living in that pundit's chair.

A quick observation. Whenever the camera pans to our bench you see SD and IW in conversation. By contrast De Boer seems to totally ignore Sammy Lee.

Re: Ian Woan on Defour
Defour is a class act and I hope he plays in whatever formation we use. His all round game has been at a high level so far and whenever he gets the ball you feel something creative is going to happen. Ian Woan's words show that every Burnley player, no matter what their reputation, has to adhere to ...

Re: Not born in Burnley never lived in Burnley but still a Claret?
My grandparents lived in Burnley and my grandmother's sister was landlady of the Fighting Cocks. As a child I used to come over with my parents every Christmas and if Burnley were at home my grandfather used to take me on the match. First game was Boxing Day 1969 - lost 1-5 to Liverpool but despite ...

We beat Hartlepool away in our first Prem season. Fletcher scored two I think. I remember the game because my son was amazed by the giant hot dogs they served up from the kiosk.

Re: Barton and Ibrahimovic
On the subject of Joey's book someone gave it to me for Christmas and I've been dipping into it. Obviously I read the section about his time at Burnley last season, which offered a fascinating insight into the dressing room in the closing stages of our Championship campaign. I am now more convinced ...
