They should have brought Woakes in. He would have strengthened the batting and offered pretty similar with the ball.

Couldn’t agree more with this. It’s getting really frustrating. Especially towards the end of yesterday’s game when we saw more of the managers and missed a good chunk of the action. I find myself shouting “Show the game!!” all the time

Hi all, I'm hoping to get some podcast recommendations on this thread, either football related or non-football. I did a quick search but couldn't find another podcast thread, though I've seen the odd one referred to (e.g. featuring Robbie Blake). Podcasts I've listened to in the past year or so inc...

It's getting the same with all main sports. Initially you just needed SkySport to follow a lot of footy/cricket/rugby, then you needed Sky and BT Sport; now there's Amazon etc involved too. Getting to the point where it's just not worth buying into any of them. Anyway, India have started very slowl...

The Crystal Palace stat is the most concerning one for me, especially given how few goals they score. I’m not buying the idea that this is due to Zaha as they’ve had more penalties than Liverpool who must have, what, ten times as many touches in the opposition box as Palace?

Here’s a suggestion. You go off the field for as long as you lie on the ground. Genuine injury, sub comes on, no problem. Wasting time for 30 seconds, then you leave your team with ten men for the next 30 seconds.

Added time to added time
Whenever Burnley are leading we always seem to face a significant chunk of added time to the ninety minutes. Every team exploits gamesmanship tactics when leading but we seemed to get punished where others don’t. Tonight we had an extra 45 seconds added to an already long five minutes. At Arsenal it...

Bear in mind Australia are missing Warner and it looked likely that Will Pucovski (sp?) would have replaced Joe Burns to open with him were it not for another concussion injury. It’s getting to a point that penalty kicks should be gotten rid of. I think they should be replaced with a direct free kick, 25 yards from goal. You can still score if you’ve got the skill but the incentive to cheat would be reduced. Takes the pressure off referees who can then judge infringements i...

Here’s an easy fix.
Liners give offside decisions old school way.
Each team gets two incorrect reviews per game. Works well enough in cricket.

It’s a real concern is this. The failure rate at football academies must be about 99%. Are the clubs preparing these boys, and their parents, for that? Surely the clubs have a duty of care that goes beyond simply milking thousands of young people on an unachievable dream? We’ve seen investigations i...

Exactly. Things have become so complicated and coloured by regulation that they lose sight of common sense. If that challenge happens in the midfield area by an outfield player, it’s a straight red. If, after an offside whistle Pickford were to jump up and punch van Dijk it’s a straight red. The ba...
