He's not suited to a team who have loads of possession. Play on the counter and give him balls to run onto and he'll do alright but he's never going to be the kind of striker who drops deep and recycles possession.

Firstly, the season still has 17 games left. Second, Norwich under Farke? Burnley under Dyche? Just two examples off the top of my head. Ask Norwich fans if they wish they’d kept Farke. We didn't do anywhere near this badly under Dyche. What was it, 33 points? Farke fair enough he won promotion aga...

I’d much rather we had another crack at the Championship with a manager that has got us promoted already, to one that hasn’t. Fair enough but you should be prepared for it to fail. You can't have a season as bad as ours without losing the dressing room to some extent. Faith in Kompany's methods wil...

If only Kompany had a track record of turning things around at Burnley before. Totally different situation. A new manager turning things around happens all the time. An existing manager turning things around after a season as bad as ours is almost unheard of, I can't think of a single example of it...

Yep, Kompany is out of his depth and anyone who thinks he's going to turn things around at Burnley is kidding themselves. The only question is whether he gets sacked now, in a few weeks/months, or when we're struggling in the Championship next season.

Impossible to say but they won't be for long if we don't start winning games. When the manager is saying "keep doing x and the results will come" and it doesn't happen the players will inevitably lose a bit of faith.

"we still managed to create chances"
Not particularly. 0.9 xG at home, compared to 1.5 xg for Everton. They had the better chances and deserved to win.
"the game was decided by the set plays"
And the first set play came after we gave the ball away playing out from the back. Again.

It's sad to say this but things aren't going to get better with Kompany in charge. His style of play fundamentally doesn't work with these players in the PL. I think his best position is fairly deep but with the freedom to get forward a lot. Similar to Yaya Toure or Pogba.
In the PL that probably means playing him in a midfield three with two other players who can cover for him.

No Muric is a shame but apart from that I don't hate it. A midfield three of Brownhill/Berge/JBG could work with Brownhill as a ball-winner and the other two getting further forward. And having Rodriguez to play off might help get the best out of Amdouni. Cautiously optimistic.

Good article. The saving grace for me is that we look like doing the hard bit - scoring in the Premier League most games. Many teams put in shocking displays and don’t have a sniff. The only point that matters is that we stuck with a manager through his first PL season and it wasn't the end of the world. We've got a good thing going with Kompany, and it'd be foolish to give that up. I think it depends how you go down. Under Dyche we gave it a good go, fought hard and went down...

We've been in this exact situation with Dyche and a few years after it we got in Europe. Not to say it'll happen again, but we have recent memory of why the word 'failing' might not be the best word to use here. Sure but by Dec 2nd we'll have played 14 games, at which point Dyche was level on point...

I'd give him five games (until after Sheffield Utd on 2nd Dec) and if he's not within 3 points of safety I'd make the change.
I don't believe for a second it will come to that but if it does there's no point sticking with a failing manager because of what he did in the Championship.

We're still trying to be a passing team, we're just not good enough to do it in the PL where teams are more physical and press us rather than sit back.
Watch the first half today and we were clearly trying to pass it out from the back, it just didn't work at all.
