Given that it's likely Martinez will be in goal for Villa in our next home game- other than any of the '66 WC winning team - will Martinez be the first World Cup Winner, since 1966, to play a competitive match at the Turf?

From the '65-'66 squad list I put on page 5 the players I wouldn't know are: Done, Lunn, Shepherd and Wilson. If that is any help? The only keeper not mentioned from that era is Matt Tyrie, Scottish keeper. Not saying it's him mind.
There is a pic of him on Google with our other Scottish keepers, Harry Thomson & Adam Blacklaw. I am unable to download on here.

Subs started 1965/6 season. Our first substitute was Ian Towers who replaced Willie Irvine in the opening fixture v. Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Interestingly, it was Towers' final game for us and was transferred to Oldham.

Not forgetting the prolific (as he often said!) Brian Clough. He felt hard done by with just 2 caps. I guess that with most, if not all, of his career spent in the 2nd division may have contributed to his caps tally. No doubt he would have said different :)

I remember reading an article, in recent times, where Adrian Heath was pleased to see Burnley doing well in the EPL. He mentioned that, looking back, he now feels he had made a mistake leaving Burnley when he did even though the pull of going back to Everton was too strong.

There would be quite a long list of applicants should the Burnley FC post become available. Most Managers/Coaches think they're good enough to do the job. It's choosing the right one......
