Re: what is YOUR favourite era watching the Clarets ?
It has to include our winning of Division 1 in 59-60. Then the following seasons when we played great football and yet achieved nothing, apart from losing a cup final to Spurs. After that I was away at university and then moving around teaching. I am now situated in the Fens so my trips to watch us ...

Re: ARTICLE: Jimmy Robson played his cards right
I met Jimmy Robson in the club shop where I was introduced to him by (an old school) friend. I was taken by surprise and all I could say was “you don’t look as tall as I remember”. I had forgotten that I had shot up to six feet or so and that I remembered him from when I was much smaller. Well, he p...

Amazing coincidence! I was in Madrid last week-end for a wedding of my nephew. On Sunday a group of 10 of us went to the game against Real Valladolid, who had two good chances in the first 10 minutes. They hit the post and screwed one chance wide of the post. Then Madrid took over after a breakaway ...

A Billy Connolly joke —
Two guys from Glasgow are going home from work one night. One says, “I’ll tell you what. When I get home
I’m going to rip off the wife’s knickers .”
The other guy says, “What for?”
He says, “The elastic is hurting my legs.”

We have had a number of these referees this season and many have been poor. Is their reliance on VAR their problem?

The small number of remaining Clarets who remember the 59-60 season and the following season too would definitely place one or the other ahead of any other season since then. We definitely don’t need any more wingers, so players like Little or Mcilroy aren’t the answer. I don’t think you ever saw Jimmy Mac. He wasn’t a winger but an inside forward. That was an old fashioned label given to midfielders. Jimmy was the greatest player we ever had and with his intelligence w...

Burnley 9 New Brighton 0 in the 1950’s
Ian Lawson scored 5 of them on his debut. I think he scored three more in the next round too and one more in the fifth round away at Huddersfield. After that he didn’t score very many and played only occasionally.

I remember Jimmy Strong as being goalkeeper in the 1950's. He was coming to the end of his career though. Since then I would place Colin McDonald as my first choice but times have changed and so has football so maybe Pope is the best I have seen, followed by Heaton.
