Re: Drop ball
The ball was actually leaving the penalty area from Jay Rod's boot. A United player heads it initially after the clash and Jay gets a boot on it, the ball goes up and Friend blows just as it is going out of the box. By touched the definition is played the ball technically. There is no logic Jay "pl...

Re: Drop ball
Tony,I was working from memory, however, if you watched it back and the ball was in the air having been last played in the penalty area, then the restart is a dropped ball to the keeper. I had thought that the ball had actually been cleared and been touched by a Claret before the referee blew --obv...

The drop ball is now uncontested, it should go back to the team in possession or who last touched it unless it has come off the referee and gone to the opposition. The opponent must retreat 4m and can not encroach until the player has touched the ball. The side in possession can not score directly f...

Having refereed many times at the Pilot Field I can tell you it is a massive pitch. Lovely club and always made to feel welcome. Their academy / youth set up is fantastic. Lots of opportunities for youngsters to make the first team early. I suppose when playing mens 1st team at 16 and 17 you learn v...

Sorry dpinsussex, had missed that. So has that rule/interpretation changed mid-season then? If it has, that explains it because I’d seen pens given for less. Tbh, does make sense and probably a fair call given Maguire was jumping. Correct that is exactly what has happened and was then cascaded down...

I’ve just watched the extended highlights back on United’s site so had United biased commentary! On reflection, I think you might be right in Shaw. We've to get to about? 37 points by May and even for SD that's going to be almost miracle proportions from where we are now. The Maguire handball was a correct decision. The interpretation of the laws of the game are now that if the arm is where it is expected to be when the ball strikes assuming there has been no deliberate movement to the ball then no penalty should be given. What they do not want is the ridiculous pena...

Re: The Shaw incident
Seems like he was making it up as he went along to me. I can't recall ever seeing the VAR overturn a free kick for one team by awarding a free kick to the other team for a separate incident at the other end of the pitch. Obviously it would have been unjust for Man Utd to have a free kick in a goals...

Lots to discuss - and I’m more relieved than disappointed in the outcome. I think Shaw got a touch on the ball and his follow through caught JBG which is why he got away with it. But can the referee, in reviewing a possible red card for one of our players then go back and award a free kick to us fo...

I was never an alcoholic per se but my drinking was insidious in that I felt the need to drink a few beers or have a couple of glasses of wine everyday. I don't think, strictly speaking, that corner flags are compulsory for a game of football. They're there to help the officials decide if it's a corner or a throw in, I believe. Not correct unfortunately. Law 1 A flagpost, at least 1.5 m (5 ft) high, with a non-pointed top and a flag must be placed ...
