Re: Stonewall penalty

I also didn't think it was a penalty, but what would happen if a defender fell on the ball on the goal line and prevented a goal? I suspect a penalty would be given. Referee would have to apply LOTG. I suspect it would not be given. The challenge comes when "selling" the decision to the players, ma...

Re: Stonewall penalty

The Laws of the game state:

"It is not usually an offence if the ball touches a players hand/arm
When a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to support the body but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body. "

No penalty. Referee was correct in law.

Thanks for this. So pretty daft for an ex top level referee to suggest Mee should have been sent off then given I’m not sure a single one of the criteria was met ? Do you know of any examples where there has been a sending off in the area where it was not a player saving the ball from going in with...

Re: Dermot - No Foul

“Clear goalscoring opportunity” is probably too vague then. If you are going up for a header and six yards out and are pushed surely that is a clear goal scoring opportunity - like the Liverpool header yesterday. If as he was going up and was pushed in the back then there is no way the player would...

Re: Dermot - No Foul

Mark Halsey reckons that Mee should have been sent off for his tangle of legs with Barnes which led to the penalty because if denied a goalscoring opportunity. Two ways of looking at this challenge. Not even a yellow for me. Was clumsy at worst. If that is classed as an obvious goal scoring and in ...

Re: ARTICLE: Attention turns to the under-23s

So you can see more from a still picture than people at the game? Perhaps if you read the first line of what was written you would see I wasnt doubting the person at the game. I have never known a goal keeper in all my years of refereeing to let his mate get sent off when he had made a save. Hence ...

DOGSO must consider CDDD and tick ALL 4 boxes.

Control of the ball

Defenders in the immediate vicinity.

Only 3 of those boxes can be ticked and therefore this is not a dogso offence.
