Re: Sixty years Ago Today

I was 6 and my first game would be ten months later, September 1960.
My big brother took me to watch the reigning champions beat Bolton 2-0 (I think) for my 7th birthday.
My abiding memory is of getting whacked with one of those old wooden rattles. Ouch!

5-1 win over Spurs about '67, ball worked out to Ralph Coates from kick off.
Ralph's blistering pace took him past a defender before swinging an early cross to the back stick for Andy Lochhead to nod in.
Classic winger- centre forward goal.

That’s why I don’t go to away matches. Until we have some dedicated standing areas for those who want to stand and seats for those who can’t stand up for long periods this will continue. Is it a sign of virility to stand where there are seats , or is it that no one has the courage to say SIT DOWN ....

I was three rows back from the old couple and though I couldn't hear what was said (yes, I'm guessing), the gist of the situation appears that the old couple had the temerity to want to watch the match seated. Two blokes appeared to be giving them grief because of this. My take on this but like I sa...

Did Vydra actually touch the ball in a positive way? Does he actually train with the first team squad because he looked so lost, like he had no understanding of anything others were trying to do. What are you actually expecting from a player who gets around 2 minutes game time once a month? If he's...

Everton huffed and puffed and looked to break from defence with pace but once they got near our penalty area they hit a brick wall (and not just our defence).
It's easy to see why they've only scored once away from home.

Maybe there's an obvious answer to that JT. The same reason that Cork or Westwood rarely get into the box, they are playing to Dyche's strict instructions. Maybe, but I recall one incident in the first half where he jinked his way into the penalty area then promptly jinked his way out again and I'm...

I thought Hendrick was superb against Narch but, (yes there's a but).
He has quite close ball control and can take players on so why not get in the box more often and maybe create an opportunity for himself or others, or at least draw a foul for a possible penalty.
Go on lad, don't be shy.

At least blue reflects our colours. Teal is a nice colour but nothing to do with us. Things could be worse. There was that horrendous yellow kit we had in the eighties and the arguments with the club about it. Their defence was on the lines of 'if there's a slightest clash of colours we use the awa...

I can remember one that went in our favour back in the mid 70's. Our first season back up under Jimmy Adamson and we were playing Liverpool at home, possibly on Boxing Day. We scored early on but Liverpool equalised around 79 minutes. We went straight up from the kick off and knocked in a winner. Do...

I don't know about anyone else, but I got my single share 10 years ago due to Barry Kilby's Premier League Pledge. That was where you received a free season ticket (you had to be a current holder of one of course). I think there were two options to the deal... 1). Where you got the ticket completely...
