Re: How good was our 1991/92 team?
Nothing irks me - I don't shut down any party - never popped a balloon - it just seems strange to me that you don't seem to allow any opinions without getting personal. It was a fantastic season. All I've said on this thread is that it was basic long ball football which is exactly what it was. I al...

Re: Pickford, Butland, Hart, Pope
Mark `PNE` Lawrenson on 606 has just said (well, I`ve just heard him say) "out of the 4 contenders for the England No.1 jersey, Pickford would be the best at the moment." WHAT????? I must have no understanding of football whatsoever.

Re: How good was our 1991/92 team?
It wasn't just about how good we were, because good teams can be pretty boring sometimes, but it was the excitement of the matches. We were really good up front and Davis and Pender were excellent, but when Pearce was in goal it could keep you on the edge of your seat, and not in a good way. I have...

Re: How good was our 1991/92 team?
We have an awful lot to thank Mullen for as that season and the play off season finishing at Wembley '94 were absolutely brilliant, especially compared to what we'd suffered before. I did understand the reasons why, but I always felt the board were far loyal to Jimmy to a fault when it was clear we...

Some interesting away games in this season with large followings. This did seem to attract some attention from the locals or in Barnet's case the Met Police and that idiot on a horse who could quite easily have crushed a number of people. Mansfield was a bit lively on Quarry Lane outside and the wh...

It was exciting because we were finally getting out of the bottom division, but it was very basic long ball football making use of pace down the flanks. Harper would have been on the left, Painter was a striker. Really? Brought in to replace the injured Eli? Not arguing against Harper (maligned at times as he was) at all. Id have pope over heaton First of all, neither of them should accept being a back-up keeper and won`t, in my opinion. Very good at that level. The amount of foreigners in the game is nullified by the size of squads at present. Back then there were a lot of sides with shoestring budgets and very tiny squads, no reserve sides for example. If you HAD to choose a starting 11 from that remarkable season, what would it ...

I still think Hart will be our number 1 in Russia so long as he gets game time at WHU. Think you'll find experience does count for a lot. Provided he doesn’t make a catastrophic mistake, yes he will. Heaton doesn’t start again until pope seriously messes up or is injured. Pope won’t see action for England.
