Re: Few clubs after Defour

Has he been a 'super signing'? In two seasons we have had half a season out of him where he's been effective. I'm not arguing about his ability, just how we've used it and his injuries. You will know better than me, but I thought he'd done very well for you. Scored some excellent goals and for what...

Re: Few clubs after Defour

Super signing Defour has been. My type of footballer. I half hoped you would get Defoe when he left us last summer, what a pair they might make. I hope you manage to keep him, if not we had Yann M'Vila on loan a couple of seasons ago who is a similar type, excellent work rate and classy on the ball....

Re: Sunderland fan here

We're gone I'm afraid, the writing's been on the wall for a long time. My main regret is not putting money on us at 16/1 at the start of the season! I backed us to go down at the start of last season as I was very concerned with what Moyes was doing and saw relegation as a certainty. Conversely I wa...

Re: Winster (near Windemere) suggestions

Don’t know if you will be up towards Keswick but the Kings Head at Thirlspot does great food and is in a lovely location.

Several good pubs in Hawkshead as well.

Re: Sunderland fan here

There are lots of us that thought Coleman was a strange appointment, we couldn’t understand what would make him leave a good job with Wales (he claimed he’d taken them as far as he could) to join an admittedly big club albeit in a complete mess. Unfortunately he’s losing a lot of goodwill as the wee...

Re: Sunderland fan here

I like a pint and I love Corfu, Siddo, but no, that wasn’t me.

My name really is Peter and I’m not a PE teacher. Teachers are required to work far harder than I do!

Re: Sunderland fan here

Yes you’re dead right, years of bad decisions like 70k a week to the likes of Jack Rodwell among many others have meant we certainly are a basket case. I was against relegation from the Premier League, some fans thought it would be a good thing. But I actually agree, League one and a reset with the ...

Re: Sunderland fan here

I met Gary one night in a pub in Burnley while watching a band. He was good crack and would agree he is a top man.

Him and Crabbers were a great double act on Metro Fm and are sorely missed.

Re: Sunderland fan here

Thanks again for the warm reception. Can’t say I’m surprised . Lots of funny and interesting replies. Just also wanted to mention Gary Rowell as another who ‘played for both’ and still lives locally I believe. Legend for us, he got a hat trick away at the mags. Also the Carlos Edwards game is always...

Re: Sunderland fan here

We were good at Derby, its difficult to know why,but that performance is very much the exception this season. A common consensus among our fans is the players are adept at raising their performance levels when it matters and relegation/paycuts/contracts are on the line towards the end of a season. O...

Re: Sunderland fan here

Heheh.

Yes if I could convert, I would (maybe) - the in laws try their best - but unfortunately it’s in the blood and is a life sentence so I’m stuck with the useless sods whether I like it or not.

BFC has to make do with being my second favourite team.

Re: Sunderland fan here

I’m 35. Again before my time but I’m aware of them both. Alan Brown cleaning up the club after the payments scandal and of course the peerless one club man Jimmy Adamson.

As you say two very important figures for both clubs.

Although he has my sympathies for the traumas he has suffered.

Re: Sunderland fan here

Thanks everyone. Yes it is heartbreaking and keeping the faith is proving very tough,, although results like Friday keep me interested (just) Again sorry for the long post and probably spent longer on it than I should have when there are far more useful things I could have been doing! Yes Billy Elli...

Sunderland fan here

Hello Long first post so please bear with me. Just want to say congratulations on a superb season so far and wish you well for the remaining games. My wife is from Burnley and the in laws are big Clarets (ST holders) I have been to your home, The Turf, many times. I was there in 2004 when we won 2-1...
