The squad is a bit stronger. Jay should prove to be an upgrade on Vokes and Crouch. Peters probably a better reserve left back than Ward was last season. I’d still like to see some pace and flair injected somewhere, even if it’s just a bench option. We’re also taking a big risk if we’re not strength...

To be fair, Heaton isn’t renowned for dominating the penalty area physically. He rarely leaves his line or 6 yard box to claim crosses. I’d say Pope showed more confidence with that.

Like most clubs the % of players we sign having been linked with them in the media beforehand is very low. That % for us involving overseas players is even lower.

In reality I suspect our “interest” in overseas players rarely amounts to much.

I think our general approach to ground improvements has been bizarre.
