Re: Liverpool penalty

A few ridiculous comments on this subject. Of course the refs opinion is the only one that matters in the awarding of a penalty. Right or wrong. Then I read that someone can stand on an opponents foot without it being a foul. The very act of standing on someone’s foot automatically impedes. Then I ...

I hear what you are saying. However the referee is not medically qualified to assess whether a player can be moved. That is the physio and club doctors responsibility. This is what Gallagher said about the Mane penalty decision: DERMOT SAYS: "We talk about it because of how Mane went down, he didn't go down too well, but I think it is a foul and once you give a foul, you have to give a penalty. The problem we have is that we talk about minimal contact and goi...

Re: Laws of game question

I think the overriding rule is that players should always LEAVE the playing area for treatment, whether minor or not. This just doesn't seem to happen and in reality the player always seems to be treated on the pitch and, once recovered, asked to leave, which in my mind is absolutely ridiculous. Ref...

I think we all agree that penalties will never go away otherwise you'd have the opposite of what we have now and defenders taking out attackers in scoring positions. But with some of the handballs, minimal contact and diving the punishment far outweighs the crime because the award of a penalty is c...

Re: VAR at the Women’s World Cup

The length of time it takes to reach a decision is a major stumbling block. Some delays I just do not understand. The telly shows a replay of an incident within seconds and I can immediately see that it is/isn’t a foul or that it is/isn’t offside. The VA Referee should watch the bl**dy BBC highlights.
