Re: Francis Lee has died
My Dad, a Bolton fan, took me to Burnden Park several times in the 1960s. There was one incident I recall fondly and with a smile. He was tackled outside the penalty area towards the corner flag just in front of us. It looked a fair tackle to me but Franny was rolling over apparently injured and in ...

Re: New word on me?
Phrontistery. A thinking place. A quiet place to contemplate. Mine used to be in the bath. I made several big decisions while relaxing, thinking and wallowing in the comfort of a warm bath. Then the sad day came when I found I could no longer heave myself out of it and subsequently discovered the sh...

Re: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
I too have an AAA. Similar size to Doctor Marina and it is checked annually. You get no symptoms and you only get to know you have one if it found during a check. Surgery will be necessary when it expands to a certain length. You must attend if called in for a check. If you have one and it goes pop ...

Re: Shane Warne passes away
In my book a sportsman as supremely talented as Warnie can be as arrogant as he likes. Who will ever forget his first bowl in test cricket in England - the Gatting bowl. I saw it live and my jaw dropped. What a cricketer. One of the very few sportsmen to whom the epithet legend can be accurately app...

I shall also raise a glass to him tonight Pete. Not seen him for ages. Had no idea he’d gone into teaching. Spent many a lazy day chewing the cud with him and Killy. We all shared the same taste in music in those days, His dad, Tom was treasurer at the Poultry Club for a long time. Are you still in...

Re: O/T Why do the Scots have a problem with tenses?
Geordies also seem to have a problem with 'went' and 'gone'. e.g. Alan Shearer "I could have went to Man United but chose Newcastle".

Re: World Cup July 1966 on the telly
I was 13 when the final was played and thought the game was top notch quality football at the time. I watched the whole program this afternoon and thought the colourisation was excellent. But I have changed my views on the quality of the football. I could not believe the wide open spaces in midfield...

Re: Burnden Park tragedy
My Dad and my uncle were also there at the open end. They were stood in a corner and watched hundreds if not thousands of fans climbing over the fence from the railway embankment directly behind the goal. My Dad told me there was no crush where he was standing. In some ways not all that dissimilar t...

Grealish because of that girly hairstyle and his half down socks. Who is he trying to impress - apart from himself.
