My late dad was actively involved in D-Day.He was in the Royal Navy...on Motor Torpedo Boats ( MTBs ) and they were backwards and forwards to and from France from the 6th onwards..protecting the Mulberry Harbours etc..mainly at Arromanches .He was 26 and was by far the oldest seaman ( non officer ) ...

Connelly is amazing and the Haller / Bosch tales are hard to match but if you want to try an English writer go for James Craig and the Inspector Carlyle series...try reading them in order.

I've just checked K-Tel Crete and the buses to Heraklion from Chania ( calling at Rethimnon ) are every hour from 6.30 am onwards and it takes about 2 and a half hours .15 euros .Its a long way but you'll see a lot of Crete and the taxi fare would be bloody expensive if you did it that way .Loads of...

Yes...I've done this loads of times .The bus services on Crete are terrific .You'll easily get a hotel for the night in Chania then the following morning get the bus to Heraklion bus station and change there for wherever you are going...I've done it to Heraklion then on to Hersonissos , stalis ,Mahl...

I usually stay in the Hampstead premier Inn on Haverstock Hill so I'm really interested in the pubs that are being suggested BUT if you have the time and fancy a little walk go down Haverstock towards Camden past Belsize Park Tube as far as the Roundhouse ( old Camden shed for the train spotters ).....
