Re: Upt'Arse versus Mighty Clarets

I guess problem is that Arsenal have the quality to eventually find a way to score if we just sit back. If we are going to do that then Barnes needs to stay further upfield with Gray so that when we do break and launch the ball upfront, it's more likely to stick. Gray has done well, but is a bit iso...

Re: Upt'Arse versus Mighty Clarets

First 10 minutes we pressed hard and did well, disrupting their play and creating a few half chances. We then started to sit deeper giving Arsenal too much more of the ball and when we did win it back, it tended to be hopeful punts upfield. Need to get back to pressing because Arsenal have a mistake...

I really can't believe Dyche is only on £420k a year. Maybe that's his basic salary, but I would expect his total package to be worth a lot more.

Barnsley v Leeds

What a cracking match this is. Superb free kick by Hourihane for Barnsley to go 3-1 up while Leeds have just pulled one back with a penalty for a Marc Roberts handball that was a yard outside the area. Barnsley look a very useful side though and it's not surprising that so many of their players are ...

More book suggestions please

A while ago I asked for some good non-fiction book suggestions and was pointed towards Hellfire and Forgotten Voices of the Great War, which I have since read and enjoyed. Have also read a lot of Bill Bryson and Michael Lewis. Now looking for something new if anyone has any good suggestions? I'm not...

All these wonderful comments, great reading by the way, just further the case for playing him in front of the back four, specifically in away matches. Our midfield are forced to play deeper away from home which leaves the forward/forwards isolated. Tarks in there would allow the midfield to keep a ...

We have a decent sized squad now so numbers aren't an issue. It's really about adding players that can improve the quality of the first 11 or bring something different.

Re: Recalling loan players

I think it has been answered above. If a player moves on a season long loan then it can be ended by the loaning club (in this case Chelsea) if there was a clause in the deal. I'm assuming, therefore, that Arsenal didn't have such a clause in when they loaned out Wilshire although I'm not so sure th...

As I said in my opening comment, I think 40 points is well within our reach but that this should be more than enough to see us stay up. I think 36-38 points will be the more realistic requirement for survival.

40 points

First half of the season has seen us gain 23 points from 19 games with 22 coming from 11 home games (W7, D1, L3) and 1 from 8 away games (W0, D1, L7). A similar ratio of points gained at home and away in the second half of the season would see us pick up 16 points from our remaining 8 home games and...

Re: We wont win away all season

Under Coyle we got 1 win & 1 draw all season. (Hull & Man City) Two years ago we got 3 wins and 5 draws. Weren't Man City going for their 10th win in a row when we drew 2-2? Goes to show that there are strange results when you least expect them. And Leicester are as unlikely to win away all...

Government bond markets aren't awful. Gilt yields keep falling which means prices are rising. Risk to owning govvies is that interest rates rise and prices fall.

This recession was avoidable and there is real concern that it could last a while. I'm far from convinced cutting interest rates will have the desired effect on the economy.
