Just read The Fortnight in September by RC Sheriff (of Journey's End fame) which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Very simple premise (a family's 2 week holiday) but very humane and contemplative.

I can't imagine what Sheffield United were expecting. No tickets required ! The 'away end' on Bramhall Lane had 2 tiers with a seated upper level. The whole end was full way before kickoff and had a capacity of around 10,000. Another section had to be made available in the stand next to their home ...

Mine would be the 2-2 draw away to Sheffield in the 90s. The ending was disappointing but at the time it was exciting to see us go in front against top flight opposition and the atmosphere in the away end was fantastic (despite the crush)
