Northern Ireland 58 World Cup squad was very strong - Blanchflower, Bingham, Gregg, Wilbur Cush, Peacock, Mac, McParland and possibly Dougan. Amazing for such a small country.

Sad news, Milnrow was a well run club in my youth.
1st casualty of the newly structured Lancashire League, long travel times don't help, Heywood were sensible in not signing up.

Campbell's book is not a bad read, 1970s football loosely based on a club like Burnley mixed up with IRA activity. Football description is good/realistic but won't spoil it for you, worth a read.

A pity this, Milnrow were a well run club in my youth, Cec Abrahams ( Johnny's dad) was their pro for many years. Agree mdd2, Maurice Setters wiped Mac out in the 1st half in the West Brom game but, arm in a sling, Mac moved out to the right wing in the 2nd half and destroyed the WBA left back.

Steve Watson ex-Newcastle managed them until February when results on the field were good. However Gateshead Stadium (athletics) is a lousy place to watch and play football, windy and the few supporters are miles away from the pitch with the athletics track in between.

An interesting piece that Ashington, Clairmont Depeiza coached me and the under 15s at Heywood Grammar school in 1960 and when I moved to Newcastle in 1977 I was amazed to find him still playing somewhere in the Durham league. West Indies wicket keeper but fast bowler in the leagues.

Little to argue with there, he's dead right about fancy-dan foreign players. Defour overall has been an expensive flop, we tried but failed with him. Bistro des Amis in Skipton is good, mix of pub and French restaurant, nothing fancy but meal for 2 with wine comes in at £45. I have just left there.
