I got out of bed really early because I was driving from Edinburgh to Ipswich. The news was all over the radio. I remember th3 day well because I made an important 'signing' of my own in Ipswich, bought a Harrier Jump Jet for £31,000. It's now in the national museum of flight in Scotland.

Surprised at some of the comments on this thread. He was pretty fair and even-handed in his commentary today and made a point of saying some really nice things about the town, the club and its fans to a national audience in the US.

Good honest pro and that comes across in the interview, as does his obvious love of the time he spent with us. My abiding memory is the determination on his face as right at the end of the game he found the energy to charge down the line and get the cross in for Francis' winner at York.

In this day and age aircraft are, almost always, rather more than reliable enough to fly over the channel. I ran a corporate flight department that ran flights across Lake Michigan in a variety of aircraft types. No way were we sending a single engined plane over the lake at night, into known icing. And that would be with the janitor on board, never mind a high value executive. It might be legal to do it...
