Re: Signing your passport

Wasn't it good old Head Girl Theresa who sorted out the Passport Office in her previous job? Mind you, I think she was in situ when it buggered up in the first place, poor luv!

Re: Springwatch

Personally I think it's crap compared with a few years ago, mainly down to the extremely irritating Chris Packham. I thought the best team was Bill Oddie and Kate Humble, but Bill clearly had some personal demons and is getting on a bit. This lot seem to want to be all lighthearted, jolly and play e...

Re: Fairport Convention

I'd missed the news about Swarb as well, although I did know he had been very ill for some years, carting an oxygen cylinder round with him. Then he had some sort of transplant (might have been heart/lung) and rallied round for a while. I think it was the fags that did for him. I once when to a ceil...

Re: Stocks and Shares

HL are among the most expensive but do provides lots of background and research. For funds only in an S&S ISA Cavendish online are much more reasonable but you do your own research from their Fund database. They are 0.2 per cent cheaper than HL, which doesn't sound a lot but it fairly adds up over t...

Re: It's nearly over for May!

June, she'll change her tune.
In restless walks she'll prowl the night.
July, she will fly,
And give no warning to her flight.

August, die she must.
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold.
September, I'll remember..................

Re: Most Irritating TV ad

What about the Nationwide ads with tossers taking it in turn to come on and read a crap poem about bugger all -- when Nationwide slashing interest rates. Pay your investors better rates and stop ******* money up the wall on third rate "poyts".

Re: Paul Cook

He seems to have a strange habit of doing well at a club then scarpering. I think he left Stanley for Chesterfield, then left Chesterfield after he'd got them promoted to go to Portsmouth. Strikes me as a tad odd, but he obviously has something to offer at lower league level, be interesting to see w...

Re: Eating in Manchester

I suspect if folk saw the "back office" and the yards behind 90 per cent of eating venues in Manchester they wouldn't set foot in them. The back streets in Chinatown are horrendous. I wouldn't like to be a hygiene inspector in that city.

Re: speech from Sean Dyche after Sunday's game?

Maybe he could treat us to a song like Tango Man did when Hull stayed up one year. Sloop John B I seem to remember! Mind, his voice might be more suited to Wandering Star, Lee Marvin style.....

Re: Losing faith in CAMRA

Agree this is a problem but it is not inevitable. How can you maintain the honesty of CAMRA recommendations? Join CAMRA and insist your local branch only recommends pubs with good real ale! Aye, but will they still get their free buffet! Also, I am not sure that pubs have to pay £200 to be in the G...

Re: Losing faith in CAMRA

I understand what you are saying but are you getting confused between the Good Beer Guide which features pubs selected by local branch members or some other guide? I generally find that pubs in the Good Beer Guide meet the brief of offering well-kept real ale, many from local brewers. However, this ...

Re: The old Saturday Sports Pink

Hells bells, I didn't know that. Still it won't make much difference to the current staff. Most of them have only been there five minutes (in relative terms). The long standing ones have all been eased out and crapped on by the current owners to save on costs.

Re: The old Saturday Sports Pink

Rodleydave its a pretty long shot but if you ring the offices in Blackburn they might still have some copies. I know all the daily editions were eventually transferred to microfilm (remember that!), but whether they retained any copies or record of the Sports Pinks I really don't know. I suspect not...

Re: The old Saturday Sports Pink

It was my displeasure to work on the Pink for a short while. It was pink but I think it might have gone to ordinary newsprint towards the end to save the guys in the print room having to change reels after printing the Saturday Telegraph. Jimmy Mac would have worked on the Pink when he was on the Te...
