The Pace of signings is far too slow
Some posters on here got themselves a little bit too giddy after the Collins signing thinking that we would have the bulk of our business completed before the players returned for pre-season training.
Perhaps we have.

But that wasn’t the point. The point was we couldn’t compete with Brighton ….. where’ve you pulled Everton from? And the rest of it …. absolute tutt. Brownhill was closely linked with West Ham before coming here, Collins linked with a load of clubs. Look at our accounts. We pay damn good money. Thi...

With our main supplier of goals (Dwight McNeil) a transfer target for Everton for a reported £25m and our main source of goals (Chris Wood) possibly missing 2 months of the season on NZ duty, it's difficult to be too optimistic until we see which players are at the club and available.

Demarai Gray expected to undergo a medical at Evertin in a 1.5m deal from Leverkusen, and no I've not got the decimal in the wrong place. Very cheap, and the type of player I always want us to be looking at Looking and acting are two entirely different things. Perhaps the player doesn't fit the pro...

Heard we are in/very interested in Tete at Fulham. What do you all think? Also read that the Yarmolenko deal is almost done, personal terms agreed, and a medical booked. (Very unsure about this but it’s been going around.) I really rate JBG but having two wingers that are injury prone would really ...

Not a Dyche player, I don't know how we didn't snap up Olise for £8M sooner, weren't even linked with him which is shocking but tells all about what Dyche wants. Perhaps the Dyche "criteria" is so strict and rigid when it comes to players that expecting 2 or 3 additions of any quality during a sing...

I think that the realisation is dawning that if the fee for Dwight was circa £25m then we are basically screwed with being in a position to bring in the quality replacements in wide/midfield areas where we need strengthening. The fee received would not be enough even if we did manage to identify sui...

Everton targeting Dwight McNeil. Benitez is keen to bolster his winger options. (Pete Graves is the source) Burnley are targeting two wingers. One of which is Dan James but they have been put off by the 25m asking price. (Daily telegraph) Better quality players usually come at a premium price. If t...

We’ve had a load of amazing U18 and U23’s in recent years that could score for fun at that level, but never had a hope of making it in adult football. The step is huge. Fingers crossed for all the academy lads that they get a career in football. Daniel Agyei scored for fun at a lower level for Wimb...

The majority of people don't even realise that this will be a short summer free for all until case numbers start to soar and restrictions have to be imposed again to save the NHS being overwhelmed with "Winter Pressures" and the flu season looming. Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Chris Hoy - outstanding Olympians.
I omitted cycling and rowing, but even professional cyclists competing in the Tour De France can still take part in the road race at the Olympics and in other indoor track events.

Many posters seem to be concentrating on Palace but are we significantly stronger after just a single signing? As one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the PL (the other 2 went down) have we bolstered our attacking options? With Chris Wood our main source of goals likely to be missing possibly 2 mont...

Ultimately though, none of those players will ever be remembered for winning a gold medal at the Olympics, only the grand slams they've won. Perhaps the players mentioned didn't enter to be remembered but just to achieve a personal ambition. Justin Rose also won Olympics Gold in golf but probably w...

In the tennis arena Serena and Venus Williams have each won 4 Gold Medals, including the doubles, and Men's Singles winners include Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal. Even though these players have won Grand Slams they still chose to play in the Olympics Arena to try and win a Gold Medal.

Making the Olympics open to professionals allowed the Games to include sports like tennis, golf and football. Even the athletes these days are well paid touring the world (pre Covid) and appearing at outdoor and indoor events. The top class athletes like Mo Farah also earn fortunes from lucrative ad...

Probably to do with professionals etc. All other sports are for amateurs.
Plenty of professional sportsmen and sportswomen taking part in the Japan Olympics including Tommy Fleetwood (golf) and Andy Murray (tennis) and in numerous other sports as well.

Excellent tipping and thanks for sharing, although I saw the post too late to get involved.
I notice that Vintage Clarets is well fancied for a big race at Newbury on Saturday but I have no inside information to pass on.

Can't imagine many countries giving their players a "heroes return" style celebration after they reached the final and lost in a home tournament.
If they reach the final in Qatar next year then that will be a different matter altogether, win or lose.

Croatia got a heroes welcome when they returned from the 2018 World Cup.
Croatia didn't play 6 out of 7 matches in their National Stadium.
Given the reaction of the players at receiving their Silver medals I don't think they would welcome an open topped bus tour and tea with Boris.

I’m firmly in the yet to be convinced camp, when it comes to Brownhill. He’s a long way to go to be fit to lace the boots of the much derided Cork. This is a make or break season for him, for me. You’re right that he’s had an unusual start - probably thrown in far quicker than was expected and this...

We know about that. Possible that we could be without him for a while during early 2022. Appreciate that fact CT but hadn't seen it mentioned (perhaps I missed it). Depending on the Covid and travelling/isolation protocols Chris could be missing for quite a while if NZ progress through the early ro...

During January/February 2022 Chris faces a hectic schedule of "win-or-bust" qualifying matches for the World Cup to be held in Qatar later that same year. And with what is usually a long campaign increasingly looking like being compressed into a two-week tournament, NZ are likely to have to navigate...

Chris Wood was our main source of goals last season but, as things stand, could be missing for a large chunk of the campaign in January/February 2022 as New Zealand play a hectic schedule of "make or bust" matches seeking to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later that same year. With the condensed...

I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything but a long hard season in the lower reaches. It's no wonder there's so much whinging when expectations are so unrealistic. I would suggest you take a good look at the thread at the start of last season for "predicted finishing position" and you will see...
