I dare say it is sustainable. Just as if you are living your own life with £50k in the bank, and along comes someone with a bit of financial jiggery-pokery and takes your £50k and takes out a mortgage so you owe another £50k, you may find that to be sustainable. But it doesn't make it a good thing....
