If you cannot reasonably expect to win, make sure you don’t lose and trust to luck for anything more.

There was always a parallel with Kevin Reeves in my mind. Both were amazing for the few games they played and there is a terrible feeling of “what if”. Maybe the mind plays tricks and fills in the blanks with more amazing performances which in reality rarely happens.

Ronaldo inching closer to Man City apparently. Be great to have him back in the PL, ideally injured when they play us to keep the score down to 5-0 I’ve never seen him live. I would want him to play just to say I’ve seen him. Not as though it would change the result maybe just the goal difference.

Also seems to be managing the game time of the squad so well. We have around 18 players who are “warmed up” within this tournament and could do a job. No undropable megastars that everyone has to pamper to. We may not win it but Southgate has given us every chance.

It is also to do with scheduling. The earlier round of 16 matches feed into the earliest quarters and semis. Otherwise we could be playing a team that has had 4 days more rest.

Funny how this website makes me look things up. I remember Tony Waiters in goal in some of my earliest matches. I didn’t realise that he’d retired and was only playing because we didn’t have a recognised backup keeper. Always seemed more assured than Peter Mellor who scared me to death.

I think SD is handicapped by his playing career. If you’d swapped the careers of Lampard and SD around there is no way Lampard would have had the offers… and everyone would be saying SD deserved a top 10 job… However SD as a player is seen as a blueprint for the teams he manages.

There’s no way either West Ham or Leicester City are paying £20/£25m for James Tarkowski. Two of the best signing last year were Fofana and Coufal. Why would either club pay that money for a player available for free in 12 months time? It’d make no sense. It does if he is planning to go to a differ...

Left back is possibly our strongest position.
Dwight only plays left wing.
I’m struggling to see where Young fits.
Having said that his personality seems top notch and he was an excellent player.
If he played on the right he would be a great addition. Maybe he could do that Ive just not seen it.
