Re: Tark - transfer
It’s not just about the headline price though, it’s the structure of the deal too. So how much up front, how much in add ons etc. Might be better to take a lower fee with a greater proportion in cash up front than a larger that fee spread out over four or five years or that includes substantial add ...

Think it tends to be a bit easier to slot attacking players straight in as less risk if they make a mistake. Harder when it’s central defenders or central midfielders.

Re: Tarks injury
As I have said before, now is the ideal time to sell him to get maximum value. Burnley don’t need £40m+ players to achieve our target, which is staying in the Premier League. If we can get that sort of fee then selling him makes sense providing the money is reinvested in new players. Problem is that...

Thing is, now is exactly the time we should be looking to sell him. He’s just had a great season, is at peak age and has two years left on his contract. We’ll never get a better price for him than now. But the Gibson situation has thrown a spanner in the works by leaving us with no natural replaceme...

Or they’ve had no encouragement but want him so keep offering more money hoping we accept Doesn’t matter if we accept if the player doesn’t want to move there. We can’t force him to go. Problems is that the better we perform the harder and more expensive it is to find players that can come in and make a difference. The risk we are taking is that the squad is too thin and loss of form or any more injuries will see us in serious bother. We desperately need cover in MF and RW, along w...

What’s interesting to me is that West Ham keep bidding for him. They must have received some encouragement from his agent to do so, because if he had no interest in going there why would they bother?

Risk of keep extending it is that you create moral hazard with people thinking that whatever happens the government will always come to the rescue. The situation we find ourselves in is very unfortunate but it can’t be pain free. The cost of propping up the economy now will be paid for by those in t...

Surprised he had the match fitness to perform at that level. He basically hasn’t played competitive football since before lockdown and only signed for Newcastle a couple of weeks ago so has had a limited pre season (unless he was already training with them before he officially signed).

In theory, now is exactly the right time to be letting Tarks leave. Seemed an odd outburst to me regarding player contracts. Most important thing is that we keep a clean sheet and ensure Pope wins the Golden Glove, even if it does end up being joint with Ederson. That would be a massive achievement for both Pope and the Club. I think I’d actually take a boring 0-0 ahead of win in which we concede.
