Re: Olympic Fairness
In answer to the OP, no. Should the same rules apply across all sports? I'm not so sure. There of course a lot of sports where strength is a significant performance factor and for these I would say the same as this case. There are a number of sports where I don't believe physical strength makes any ...

That Ian Wright goal at Brentford - never have i been so sure that a Burnley player will score a one on one. I was in the stand where the camera was and from the minute he went through my thoughts were "he'll score, it's Ian Wright, it's what he does. Time after time for Arsenal, he will do the sam...

And no doubt we'll continue. What's your point? Fairly obvious. We're as bad, if not worse for it. May be a case that foreign refs have been dealing with it for longer and are less susceptible to being conned so our players don't get away with it in internationals like they do every week in the PL.

Southgate is never going to play without 2 holding midfielders, I mean he wasn't brave enough to do it at home to Scotland - I dread to think what formation he would play against someone like France Pickford Chilwell Stones Maguire Mings Walker Trippier Henderson Rice Philips Kane Kane? Steady now.

We chilled in gear 2, job done, sail into the knockout rounds with the easiest tie possible. The occasion is very different when the knockout rounds start, lose and you're out. Foden faced the same issue McNeil faces, the only threat is far easier to nullify. Which is why Mount should have gone off and Grealish should have come on at half time I don't agree with that unless one of Rice or Phillips should have been hooked for another forward as well to change the formation.

I'd rather us plod through the group in 2nd gear and play Sweden in the first knockout round instead of smoking the group and playing France/Portugal. I don't buy the whole "we have to play the best teams at some point" argument, because it ignores the effect that momentum has in tournament football. If we absolutely have to play the Germans, I'd rather do it on the back of winning a knockout game than doing it straight out of the groups. Doesn't...

The IRA bomb in Manchester; 15th June 1996.
Amazing how time flies. Looking back I remember it being in the middle of Euro 96 which must have caused a huge problem for the authorities.
Fortunately nobody was killed and the resulting re build of the city centre improved Manchester considerably.
