Re: Beyer has taken this one personally...
I'd love if he were still playing for us tbh. I know him not being offered a contract was fairly divisive with some thinking it was the right decision and others not, but personally speaking I was only being half-sentimental in thinking he could be helpful for us in the first year back. Barnes could...

Re: Beyer has taken this one personally...
FWIW within the episteme of modern coaching the defensive third appears to me to be the most systematically coached area of the field. One might call it 'over coaching' for lack of a better term, though I personally wouldn't go as far as calling it that outright, because that's a kind of pejorative ...

Re: Beyer has taken this one personally...
I feel for the lad, he looked shell shocked after the goal. Not to get too deep or anything, but it's a curse of nature that in general the people who care the most are the ones who feel most terribly the pain of any mistakes they make. Those people usually are the ones most deserving of forgiveness...

Re: Setting the Tempo
Very good post, and I don't think there's a single thing in it I disagree with. It's a shame people sometimes dunk on long posts for their length (people say the poster is "talking $hite", but it's actually because they feel challenged by someone making their case better than they can), but it's a s...

Re: The Foster Paradox
I increasingly think that a good 70-80% of football is about the mental game, with technical coming behind athletic. Not just footballing intelligence & vision but mentality, workrate, bottle and will to win and improve and the ability to concentrate, focus and stay alert and hungry. A mate of mine...

Re: Who should we be doing better than ? Delusion
How many other premiership club plays a 34 year old midfield dynamo ? I expect the "it couldn't be much worse" angle but still He doesn't even make matchday squads. This despite our single biggest weakness being inexperience/shite game management, and his biggest strengths these days being his expe...

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Even in a fairly bad champ season by our standards you're guaranteed like 10 or 15 wins at least. I'd take that right now. The way things are going this season I reckon I've got about a grand total of 3 more wins to celebrate and make my weekend a good one footy wise between now and next August. Fk ...

Re: Who should we be doing better than ? Delusion
After promotion I though we'd be good value for top half, but that's because I was watching last season's team at the time, before we decided not to play Muric, THB, a LB who can actually play the system, Tella, Zaroury, Benny, Cork, basically the team that originally informed the view that Burnley ...

Re: The Foster Paradox
Bags of potential all over this team, but you look at something like their first goal, that's just raw inexperience from Beyer thinking he can get away with defending at 90% intensity. Whistle to whistle you've got to fight for every inch like your life depends on it in the prem. Tresor has shown so...

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Used to be that outside the best three or four teams in the league, something had to go very wrong for Burnley to lose at the Turf. It's now the case that something would have to go very wrong for the other team not to win. Some good football being played in spells, but we're one of the softest touc...

Re: Kompany: time to go
Evidence of learning from it so far is very thin on the ground. I'm in the camp that says a new manager would struggle (and we'd struggle to find a good one) because of how the squad is built but if we see more of the same on Saturday it will be soul-destroying. Feeling like a long season right now...

If we get trigger happy, the next bloke decides half the signings aren't in his plans, so we throw good money at bad, still get relegated, then enter a death spiral. It's fking stupid to contemplate sacking him, honestly.

There's no way Vinny doesn't learn from this awful last three months. We reap the rewards by sticking with him, even upon what looks like inevitable relegation, and he becomes a better football manager because of the struggle.

Re: Everton match thread
In fairness the cup games last season against UTD and Bournemouth were way better than anything we've done this season, and with a squad that didn't cost £100m. (So the step up in quality only partially explains things I think).

Re: Everton match thread
Could be just Dyche deciding to let us play in as much as we like in our defensive third, but we didn't cause ourselves trouble all night with dogger GK passing for a start, so that's one in the Muric column.

There's nothing they will get from ten minutes of this game of walking football that they couldn't get from doing laps around a training pitch. You don't get match fit by playing for ten minutes. Ten minutes might help you shake off a hangover but that's about it. Let Massengo kick a ball.

Re: Bournemouth v Burnley MATCH THREAD
Very unfair on Cullen to basically expect him to run midfield defensive duties all by himself. Taylor's one-footedness makes up really easy to play against. Just a horrible performance all round. If we somehow won this it'll be remembered for a long time as the worst performance for a win.

Roberts, Beyer, THB, Maatsen. They could all play as midfielders. Vitinho, Al-Dakhil, O'Shea, Taylor - all very much clear as day defenders. Is it any wonder our playing out from the back has been so bad this season? It's not only because we're in the prem; we don't have players who can do it, so wh...
