Gentlemen in British football

Picking up on Tony's description of Jimmy Robson, Ray Pointer, John Connelly, Brian Miller and - most definitely - Jimmy McIlroy are/have been commonly described as gentlemen. Without getting hung up on any class system issues (because that's not what people mean in this context), are there ANY gent...

Re: Best/Loudest away fans at the Turf

Certainly these days it’s hard to look past the five PTN mentioned. I wonder in which game since the Longside’s demolition the Turf (home and away fans) came closest to replicating its old atmosphere :?: Cup semi-final against Spurs? The noise when Jayrod scored was quite impressive! Edit - I know ...

Be Bop Deluxe: Futurama. Only I have never forgotten about it. It's brilliant. Years ahead of its time. Slightly more commercial, but Sunburst Finish was also a terrific album! I saw Be Bop Deluxe a couple of times at uni in the late seventies, and I rate Bill Nelson as something of a genius, but h...

Hi Dougall- any relation to the great aforementioned Billy, or did you know him well (if you don’t mind me asking)? I’m sure there’s a book of interesting stories if you did. Yep. He was my Grandad. He died when I was 10, so I didn’t get the stories from him first-hand, but there were lots of them!...

Definitely the Circ until Angels opened, then the Circ seemed to go downhill (presumably because they lost some custom and relaxed their entry requirements?) with more fights etc. From the mid-70s well into the 80s Angels was a great place for pop/dance music and for lots and lots and LOTS of girls!...

Like the Mitre, it was a centre in Burnley until the road junction was taken out. I only got the bus there because you could get both the Nelson bus or the Briercliffe bus into town, however it was often dangerous waiting. The people on the Briercliffe bus were always a lot nicer.
