DA it must feel amazing to win at being a clever dick on a genuinely interesting thread about the northern soul scene. As if anyone wants to get into a debate with you about the definition of irony while reliving northern soul memories.

Love the articles. What a season. Had an old Vw beetle and went to many aways including this one, Rotherham first game of season, Cardiff etc. The clutch packing in at Chestefield on NYD was a memorable point.

Re: Southampton (a) - General Info
Southampton is a dreadful city, one of the very worst. The people who populate the city centre make the citizens of Burnley look healthy, wealthy and wise. I spent 2 years there.
That said, there is a cluster of pubs and food places on Oxford Street which are quite nice, not too far from the ground.

But was standing on the Longside with a pint during the game a key part of the experience for many? I do not recall many people drinking during the game in those days.

Interested to know what the typical experience was pre 1985… were there bars, did people bring their own cans etc, was it different in different parts of the ground. As a kid in those days my abiding memory is the smell of onions, tobacco and Bovril, less of beer.

I perceive it as the allowable equivalent of a BNP flag. Picture the people who would wear those trainers. Anyway not my cup of tea as a camping neighbour but to be fair there was no anti social behaviour or anything like that so maybe I’m the intolerant one.
